My thoughs of the season….
by Tricia

The season ended much earlier than we would all hope for, but that’s all you can do as a fan, hope. When the Sharks went down 3-0 in the series, my motto became, ”expect the worst, hope for the best.” But they surely got me excited, watching them come back 2 games in a row and make the Stars earn their fourth win. going into four overtimes…wow! My heart was pounding fast for at least the last 3 hours of the game. The outcome was not the happiest, but as a fan, I felt they gave their all and gave us great entertainment. We definitely got a show! It was full of excitment and full of passion. But the season was not just about the last month of play, yes that’s what they strive for in the end, but to get in that position they played a hard 82 games.

In my opinion the Sharks started out flat and I was a bit hesitant on how the season would begin. For the first half of the season they played, OK. They were staying up in points and didn’t fall back too far. They weren’t winning a bunch and they weren’t losing a bunch. They were just OK. But OK isn’t the Sharks. They have a huge amount of skill and a lot of it wasn’t being used. The only player I believe that played to their star potential, all 82 games of the regular season and onto the playoffs was Evgeni Nabokov. He has played stellar all season long and has kept the Sharks in many tough games. There is also Torrey Mitchell, the surprise rookie who amazed everyone. His speed, his passion, and his grit. He played 110% every shift from beginnning to the the very end. In the playoffs his speed and passion broke through, especially going to four overtimes. While the older players were running out of gas, he stepped it up another level. Nabokov and Mitchell were the 2 best players of the season in my opinion.

Although the sharks first half of the season was slow, they picked it up in the end. With a 20 game unbeaten streak, they flew up to first place in their division and off to the playoffs they were.

Ending the long season after two rounds in the playoffs, was a dissappointment, but they played hard and gave everything they had.

Now we wait and see what the next season holds. It should be exciting!!

The way I see it…
by Tanja

…it’s too bad the Sharks dropped out of the playoffs that early and especially THAT WAY!! Four over times in the last game – that was just a battle of nerves! No matter if you were a player, the coach or a fan watching: Those 4 x 20 minutes were torture!

But it needs to be said: Well played! Too bad the start in the 2nd round of the playoffs was not as great as the end. Then the score board could look different… Maybe it would’ve been Sharks vs. Red Wings?

Anyway – it’s a game and someone has to loose. One thing is for sure: There will be a new season – and I will be watching and cheering for the Sharks again! Who knows – maybe the 2009 playoffs will look totally different… :) Go Sharks!
